Nirvana is a best-of album by the American band Nirvana of the same name . It was released in late October 2002, more than eight years after the trio split up, on the Geffen Records label.

The songs contained on the album are mostly previously released singles from the three studio albums Bleach (one song), Nevermind (four songs) and In Utero (four songs). Three tracks were added from the 1993 live album MTV Unplugged In New York . There is also one track each from the EP Blew and the B-side album Incesticide . The only previously unreleased track on the album is You Know You're Right .

The best-of album entered the German charts at number 5 in the 46th calendar week of 2002 and was at number 9 in the following weeks; 11 and 16. In total, Nirvana was in the top 100 for 26 weeks. In the US, the album debuted at number 3 and left the charts after 37 weeks. In the German annual charts for 2002, the sound carrier was ranked 88th.
Being single was You Know You're Right decoupled for download. The song rose to number 45 in the US charts, but failed to establish itself in the German charts.
Sales figures and awards
The best of has sold around 8.2 million times worldwide. In the US, the album was awarded a platinum record for more than one million units sold . In Europe, Nirvana sold more than two million copies and achieved double platinum status.

Stefan Friedrich from laut.de rated the album with five out of a possible five points. The best of makes it clear that Nirvana “left a gap” “that no one has really been able to fill so far.” The previously unreleased song You Know You're Right also turns out to be “a small hit after listening to it several times.”
