Blew (English for "burn through" ) is a song and an EP by the US rock band Nirvana . It was released in December 1989.

song

The song was written by Kurt Cobain between 1988 and 1989 and was featured on the EP of the same name, on the album Bleach , on the live CD From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah and the live video Live! Tonight! Sold Out !! released.

text

Kurt Cobain never gave the deeper meaning of any song on Bleach and once mentioned that he randomly put together words for the album that had hardly any personal meanings.

In Blew, Cobain turns to an apparently familiar person, place or object and demands the right to "lose", "disappear" and "breathe". However, each demand is introduced with an "If you don't mind" (... "If you wouldn't mind" ).

The final version of Blew was written just days before the Bleach recordings . An earlier version of the text was a little longer, but hardly more extensive. The only major change was the rewriting of the line " I would like to choose" to "I would like to lose" .

music

The band was experimenting with drop-d tuning at the time . H. the low E string of the guitar or bass guitar is tuned down to a D. Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic had already tuned their instruments lower before the recording, but forgot that and tuned them even lower.

EP

The Blew EP was released in December 1989 on Tupelo Records. Besides Blew , the EP contains Love Buzz (first single from Bleach ), Been a Son (this version only appeared on Best-Of Nirvana in 2002 and another version on Incesticide ) and Stain ( appeared on Incesticide in 1992 ).

The EP was only released in the UK and with a circulation of only 3000 copies it is hardly available anymore. The EP was released on 12 "vinyl and on CD.
