Jack Endino (* 1964 ) is an American record producer and musician . He made a name for himself with the guitar sound that he gave to Seattle bands such as Nirvana and Soundgarden in the late 1980s . In the 1996 film Hype! he was presented humorously, but not without reason, as the "Godfather of Grunge".

Life

In early 1985, Jack Endino and Daniel House founded Skin Yard , whose first self-titled album was his first job as a producer . In 1985 Jack Endino set up Reciprocal Recording with Chris Hanzsek and produced Soundgarden's first Screaming Live EP and Green Rivers Dry As A Bone EP , which were among the first releases on the Seattle cult label Sub Pop . He was also one of the producers of the label's Sub Pop 200 compilation .

After he had completed Mudhony's classic Superfuzz Bigmuff , one day the then unknown Kurt Cobain showed up in the studio to record 10 songs for a demo with his then nameless band (some of which would later end up on Nirvanas Incesticide ). Jack Endino made a copy of the recordings he sent to sub-pop co- founder Jonathan Poneman . So it came about that in 1988 he produced Nirvana's debut album Bleach .

In 1991 Jack Endino left Reciprocal Recording to become a freelance producer . In addition to the many Seattle bands such as Screaming Trees , L7 and Seven Year Bitch , he worked with many bands in Europe , Canada , Australia and South America . The two albums he produced by the Brazilian band Titãs won gold status in Brazil. As a solo artist, Jack Endino has released three albums on which he sometimes plays almost all instruments.
