Taizé is a French municipality with 178 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

The small municipality of Taizé is located on the Grosne , about 35 kilometers northwest of Mâcon and ten kilometers north of Cluny .
Neighboring municipalities of Taizé are Ameugny in the north-west and north, Bray in the east, Massilly in the south and Flagy in the south-west.
history
The small community became known through the community of Taizé , which settled in the village in 1949. It attracts tens of thousands of mostly young people from all over the world every year.

In addition to the irregular Roman Catholic masses in the parish in the village church of Ste-Marie-Madeleine , a Roman Catholic mass is celebrated daily in the Church of Reconciliation . This usually takes place on weekdays in the crypt below the church, on Sundays there is a Roman Catholic Eucharist in the church . In the Church of Reconciliation, the ecumenical community holds its prayer times three times a day. Protestant and Orthodox services, held by guests of the community, also take place at irregular intervals in the reconciliation or village church.

- Brother Roger Schutz (born May 12, 1915 in Provence, Switzerland; † August 16, 2005 in Taizé, France) was the founder and prior of the Ecumenical Brotherhood of Taizé for most of his life.
- Brother Daniel de Montmollin (* 1921 in Saint-Aubin, Canton Neuchâtel, Switzerland) is a founding member of the ecumenical Communauté de Taizé.
- Brother Max Thurian (born August 16, 1921 in Geneva, † August 15, 1996 in Geneva) was one of the first seven brothers of the Communauté de Taizé and was considered the most important theologian of the ecumenical community. Together with Brother Roger, he was a council observer at the Second Vatican Council.
- Brother Robert Giscard (* 1923 in Lyon, France; † March 12, 1993) was a doctor and one of the first seven brothers of the Taizé Community.
