Polly is a song by the American rock band Nirvana and appeared on their 1991 album Nevermind .

In 1988 Kurt Cobain Polly wrote for the album Bleach, which was released in the summer of 1989 . A live version is on the album From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah , released in autumn 1996 .

The song is about a girl from Tacoma who was arrested, raped, and torched with a blowtorch after a punk concert in 1987 , but escaped days later. The song is written from the perpetrator's point of view.
