Butch Vig (Bryan David Vigorson, born August 2, 1957 in Viroqua , Wisconsin , USA ) is an American drummer and member of the band Garbage . Vig produced rock bands such as Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins , among others .

Life

Butch Vig is the son of a teacher and a doctor. He dedicated himself to music very early on, took piano lessons and was mainly influenced by bands like The Who . After playing in a few college bands, he dropped out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison to concentrate fully on music. Butch's first, more well-known band was called "Eclipse". A little later he founded another band called "First Person" with Steve Marker , Phil Davis and Tom Vorda.

In 1978 Spooner was founded . Two albums ( Every Corner Dance Mountain Railroad , Wildest Dreams ) and two singles were released until 1986. Duke Erikson was the frontman of this commercially unsuccessful band, which finally broke up in 1986.

In addition to the Garbage recordings, he also produced the 1991 long player Nevermind by Nirvana , the first two albums by Smashing Pumpkins and other releases by Sonic Youth , Helmet and Soul Asylum as well as the album 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day, which was released on May 15, 2009 and the album in 2011 published Wasting Light by the Foo Fighters . For the latter, he later produced Sonic Highways , which was released in 2014 .
