The Federal Association of German Powerlifters e. V. (BVDK) is the German professional organization for powerlifting (powerlifting). Powerlifting consists of the disciplines squat , bench press and deadlift , which are performed with a barbell with weight lifting. The association is based in Dresden .
history
Powerlifting has existed in Germany since 1962. This year the first championships in this sport were held in Germany.
While the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) was founded in the USA in 1971 thanks to the sport's growing popularity around the world, the sport was not organized in Germany until 1975. Championships were mainly held in Bavaria. There is a stronghold of sport.
The Bavarian Weightlifting Association (BGV) took up powerlifting as a sport in 1976. In the same year the Bavarian Weightlifting Association became a member of the IPF.
The Federal Association of German Weightlifters (BVDG) took up powerlifting in 1981 as a second sport alongside Olympic weightlifting . The BVDG also represents the sport internationally.
There have also been competitions for women since the early 1980s.
In 1990 the East and West German powerlifting associations merged. The Federal Association of German Powerlifters was added in 2000. He is a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

The Federal Association of German Powerlifters is in Baden-Württemberg (15 clubs, 1045 club members), Bavaria (42 clubs, 6832 club members), Berlin (5 clubs, 490 club members), Brandenburg (15 clubs, 660 club members), Hesse (14 clubs, 1978 Club members), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (11 clubs, 128 club members), Lower Saxony (14 clubs, 5313 club members), North Rhine-Westphalia (18 clubs, 509 club members), Rhineland-Palatinate (5 clubs, 265 club members), Saarland (2 clubs, 5 club members), Saxony (22 clubs, 795 club members), Saxony-Anhalt (14 clubs, 522 club members), Schleswig-Holstein (2 clubs, 30 members) and Thuringia (22 clubs, 1196 club members) represented (as of 2014).
The federal association holds German championships for all age groups. There are also courses and national cups.
Doping controls
According to its own information, the association carries out around 120 doping controls at state championships and German championships every year . The squad athletes are integrated in the NADA training control system.
