Calendar Brotherhood Neuenheerse
The Neuenheerse Calendar Brotherhood was founded between 1350 and 1360 and is the only remaining fraternity in the East Westphalian region.
history
A calendar brotherhood was only possible for the little Neuenheerse because there were two priests and fourteen priests ( beneficiaries ) at the women's monastery founded there in 868 . Many canonesses were also able to join the brotherhood. As early as the 16th century, the Brotherhood used its own "Kalandhaus" to hold the calendar days. In 1610 a new house was built. In 1829 the brotherhood donated the building to the community of Neuenheerse, which used it as a girls' school.
Today the brotherhood consists of a bishop, 19 priests and two lay people. It is led by the calendar dean Josef Klingele. He convenes the calendar twice a year: in spring on the Wednesday after White Sunday and in autumn on the Monday after the feast day of St. Michael. The meeting begins with a festive service, followed by the “chapter meeting”, in which organizational and pastoral issues are discussed. This is followed by a joint meal, during which the youngest member present reads from Thomas von Kempen's book “Imitation of Christ” as a table reading . After dinner, the brotherhood celebrates Vespers together in the parish church and prays for its deceased members.
