The ICF was originally founded as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth , following the success of the Scotch Cup between Canada and Scotland . In the beginning, teams from the associations of Scotland, Canada, Sweden , Norway , Switzerland and the United States took part. In the course of its creation, the ICF organized the World Curling Championships . In addition to the World Championships, the WCF currently organizes the World Junior Curling Championships and the World Curling Championships (senior division).

Since the foundation, the number of member associations has grown to 39. The German Curling Association (DCV) joined the ICF in 1967, the Austrian Curling Association (ÖCV) in 1982. In 1991 the ICF was renamed the World Curling Federation . The WCF is based at the Scottish Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth . In April 2006, the Canadian Les Harrison was elected President of the WCF, two years later he was confirmed in office and thus re-elected for a further two-year term.
