Heinrich Gernand (born December 5, 1907 in Bebra ; † unknown) was a German politician ( NSDAP ).

Life

Gernand grew up in Bebra and attended high school in Hersfeld until 1925 . He joined the NSDAP (membership number 484.269) and the SS (membership number 23.395) and was NSDAP district leader in Fulda from 1932 to 1933 . In 1934 he took over the post of head of propaganda for the Gau Kurhessen of the NSDAP in Kassel . In the function of Gauamtsleiter he ran on the nomination of the NSDAP on the list place with the number 275 in the election to the German Reichstag on March 29, 1936, but did not enter the National Socialist Reichstag .

Immediately before the events of the Reichskristallnacht , Gernand instigated anti-Jewish looting and acts of violence in the Kassel / Fulda area, the then Gau Kurhessen, which were among the first attacks in the following Germany-wide pogroms . The publications of Angela Hermann emphasize the direct responsibility Gernands for the start of pogroms and doubt incitement Gernands by Goebbels , perhaps because Gernand have had no contact with Goebbels and Kurhessen was the beginning of the uprising initiated too insignificant.

In 1941 he was promoted to SS-Sturmbannführer and in 1943 to SS-Obersturmbannführer .

In the same year he resigned from the post of head of propaganda and on October 6, 1941, became the new head of the Main Department for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda (HAVP) in The Hague in the occupied Netherlands . In the HAVP, he was responsible for the Propaganda and Special Tasks, Culture, Radio and Press departments. In 1942 he was replaced by Max Stampe as head of the HAVP.
