Wolfgang Sorge (ice hockey official)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Sorge (* 1948 ) is a German ice hockey official . From 1995 to 2002 he was treasurer of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) and from 1996 to 2017 President of the State Ice Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (LEV NRW). In 1981 Sorge was involved in the passport forgery scandal; In 2002, after the "striptease affair", he had to resign from his position as a supervisor for the German women's national team .

Passport forgery scandal

In the 1970s, Sorge was head of the organization at the Cologne EC, where he was, among other things, in charge of passport matters for objectionable American players. At the same time, he was ice hockey chairman in the LEV NRW, where he was responsible for checking the relevant passports. In 1981 the public prosecutor's office investigated the Cologne EC because it had forged many American players' passports. Sorge subsequently resigned from the KEC.

From 1974, Sorge was in the DEB court, first as assessor, from 1976 to 1982 as chairman.

Women ice hockey

In 1982, together with Günther Sabetzki , he initiated the establishment of Germany 's first women's ice hockey league , the NRW-Liga. In 1984 he was jointly responsible for the first German women's championship . In the 1990s, Sorge was a woman manager at the DEB.

At the women's world championship in 2000 , Sorge is said to have stripped himself down to his underpants in the hotel of the women's national team and asked the players to take part. The action became known after the players protested against Sorges being used as team supervisor at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City .

DEB treasurer

In 1995 Sorge became treasurer of the DEB. According to witnesses, Sorge is said to have promised Rainer Gossmann that he would get the necessary votes for the presidential election if Sorge would become his treasurer. Concern was subsequently regarded as the “secret ruler” of the DEB. In the 1995 report of the DEB's cash auditors, concern was accused of abuse of office . In 2002, Sorge resigned with most of the presidium after Gossmann was convicted of tax evasion.

President of the LEV NRW

Sorge had been a board member of the LEV NRW since 1974. In 1995 he became vice president and in 1996 president of the regional association. In August 2017, he surprisingly resigned. He was then elected honorary president of the LEV NRW.

Concern took action vehemently against internal critics. In the 1990s, he imposed 40 administrative proceedings against the Eisbären Düsseldorf , 39 of which were decided by the courts in favor of the Eisbären. At the annual general meeting of the LEV NRW 2016, Sorge canceled the meeting shortly before the agenda item “Deselecting the President” . In the run-up to the event, Sorge had fined several ice hockey clubs, which meant that they lost all but one of the votes. Due to the dispute, the ice hockey clubs split off and founded the North Rhine-Westphalia Ice Hockey Association .
