The FN M13 (also FN XIII) was a motorcycle from the Belgian manufacturer Fabrique Nationale de Herstal , which was built from 1947 to 1953. On the model from 1947 to 1952, a previously unique front wheel guide, a drawn long arm swing arm , was installed.

technology

The M13 was offered with an overhead engine with 250 cm³ displacement (from 1950 with 350 cm³) and a side-controlled version with 450 cm³ displacement. The 450 version with a bore / stroke ratio of 84.5 × 80 mm made 11  horsepower at 3,500 min -1 ; With this, the 136 kg machine reached a top speed of 105 km / h.

The motorcycle with the drawn long arm swing arm was presented to the press in September 1946, and development work on it had already taken place before the Second World War . Initially, the long arm swing arm with tension springs, which are loaded during the compression process, was offered. Another unusual design replaced the tension springs in the 1949 model year. Similar to the previous model, the pivot point was moved in front of the front wheel and cushioned with a rubber band. A motocross version was created, as was a military version for the Belgian army. The front wheel construction of the drawn long arm swing arm was not accepted by the market due to its unusual appearance and - although technically mature - was replaced by a telescopic fork in 1952 .
