The practical theology (subtitle: magazine for practice and church, society and culture ; abbreviated PrTh ) is a magazine for people who are active in the pastoral office , training, school, adult education or in the social field.

It deals with topics from the fields of religion and society; Specific problem areas from the above-mentioned fields of work as well as human and social science topics that are important for shaping practice.

Each issue contains a central topic with experiences, reports and practical-theological and social-scientific analyzes of various aspects of the topic. Historical background information and reviews and literature reports complete each individual edition.

The magazine was founded in 1966 by the Mainz theology professor Gert Otto under the name Theologia Practica and was first published by Christian Kaiser Verlag . With the transfer of this publishing house to the Gütersloh publishing house in 1994, the name was changed to the current one.
