Ice hockey in Zweibrücken
Ice hockey has been played in Zweibrücken in the Palatinate regionsince the 1950s. EHC Zweibrücken Hornets is currently playingin the Regionalliga Süd-West . The HC Two Bridges "Flyers" played in the 1980 two years in the league .
history
Ice hockey came to the city through soldiers of the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Zweibrücken . In 1955 the ice rink called Peter Cunningham Memorial Arena was opened on Zweibrücken Air Base . It was initially the venue for the Royal Canadian Air Force Flyers . In the late 1960s, the US Air Force took over the air base and the ice rink.
Zweibrücker ice sports community
Zweibrücker EG played in the then third-class regional league in 1971/72 . Today only ice hockey referees are organized in the ZEG .
HC Zweibrücken Flyers
The HC Zweibrücken played from 1983 to 1985 in the league and qualified for the relegation with the 2nd Bundesliga . The club took over financially and stopped playing. Today the HCZ only provides a hobby team.

The EHC Zweibrücken was founded in 1987. The stadium went to the city in 1992 and later to a private operator. Since then, the club has mainly played in the regional league, although it has been participating in the league in Baden-Württemberg since 2002. The venue is the Zweibrücken ICE-ARENA .
The 1st team currently (2017) plays in the fourth highest division, the Regionalliga Süd-West . The Hornets became champions of the Regionalliga Süd-West for the first time in the 2016/17 season after the final against the Eisbären Heilbronn.
The 2nd team takes part in the - fifth class - Landesliga Baden-Württemberg and the Rhineland-Palatinate League. In the youngsters of the EHCZ, the youth teams from the U8 age group to youth take part in games in the Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Wuerttemberg areas. For this purpose, there is a team of cold start flyers organized as a hobby under the umbrella of the EHCZ
