Westin Hotels & Resorts is a hotel brand of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide that was founded in the United States in 1930 and now operates 120 hotels in 24 countries.

history

In 1930 two hotel competitors met by chance at breakfast in the same restaurant in Yakima (Washington) . They got into conversation, got together and founded Western Hotels , a hotel chain with 17 hotels. In 1954 the name was changed by taking over a hotel in Canada from Western Hotels to Western International Hotels . In 1969 the hotels offered the world's first 24-hour service. In 1980 the name was again changed to Westin Hotels & Resorts for the 50th anniversary . From 1988–1989, the German Helmut Hoermann was the President of the Westin Group and targeted expansion into Germany.
