Steve Junker (born June 26, 1972 in Castlegar , British Columbia ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player and coach. He last played in the German Ice Hockey League for the Augsburger Panther and is the coach of the Castlegar Rebels .
Career
The 1.82 m tall winger began his career with the Spokane Chiefs in the Canadian Junior League WHL before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft as 92nd in the fifth round of the New York Islanders .
However, the left-handed shooter has only made eight appearances in the NHL, played most of the time with lower-class farm teams and finally switched to EV Landshut in the German Ice Hockey League DEL in 1997 . For Niederbayern, Junker was on the ice for two seasons before moving to DEL record champions Adler Mannheim for the 1999/00 season. Junker won the German championship with the Eagles in 2001 , and to this day the Canadian is the player with the fifth most games in the team's history. After five seasons and 304 season and playoff games, Junker moved to the second division for the SERC Wild Wings , where he had a contract until 2008.
For the 2008/2009 season , the attacker moved back to the DEL to the Augsburg Panthers .
After the 2009/2010 season Junker ended his playing career and was appointed as a coach and manager by the Castlegar Rebels , a team in the lower-class Canadian junior league Kootenay International Junior Hockey League . In April 2013, he left his job with the Rebels.
International
For the Canadian national ice hockey team , Steve Junker played seven games at the U20 World Cup in 1992 , for the seniors he was on the ice in several international games in the 1996/97 season.
