Chez Chartier is a well-known restaurant in Paris that opened in 1896 and is located in the rear building at 7, rue du Faubourg-Montmartre ( 9th arrondissement ). Grands Boulevards is the closest metro station on lines 8 and 9 . Chez Chartier is worthy of protection since 1989 Monument ( monument historique ). It's popular with locals because of its cheap prices; it was not overrun with tourists until the 1970s.

history

Chez Chartier was founded in 1896 by the siblings Frédéric and Camille Chartier (1845–1926) after the family had already opened a restaurant in 1895 on Rue du Temple. The restaurant, opened under the name Le Bouillon , is very close to the Grands Boulevards , the Hôtel Drouot and the stock exchange .

The interior of Chez Chartier is in the Art Deco style and has not changed much since it opened. The spacious room, which offers space for over 300 people and looks like a train station waiting room, also has a large clock on the wall, is illuminated by a glass ceiling. Suggested niches with mirrors are embedded in the walls. The walls with marble plinths are paneled halfway up with wood and stucco moldings . The hanging lamps with large spheres as lights and the shelves for the cloakroom between the rows of tables are made of polished copper .

In the restaurant, which is open 365 days a year, waiters in long white aprons , black waistcoats and a bow tie around the white shirt collar serve. The bill is added directly on the paper tablecloth.
