Justin Kelly (born March 17, 1981 in Abbotsford , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was under contract with Deggendorfer SC in the DEL2 until February 2019 .
Career
Justin Kelly began his career in the 1997/98 season with the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League . During this season he moved to league rivals Prince Albert Raiders . During the following season he moved to the Saskatoon Blades after 30 games for which he played until 2002.
For the 2002/03 season Kelly went to Sweden for IF Troja-Ljungby for a year . Between 2003 and 2006, Kelly returned to North America, where he played in three different leagues for the Lowell Lock Monsters , Las Vegas Wranglers , Springfield Falcons and Johnstown Chiefs . Among other things, he made 34 appearances for the Lowell Lock Monsters in the American Hockey League .
In the 2006/07 season Kelly moved to Europe for a second time. During the first year he was on the ice for EHC Olten , EHC Linz and HC Pustertal in three European leagues. From 2007 to 2010 he played for SC Bietigheim-Bissingen in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey , won the championship title with the Steelers in 2009 and was named Player of the Year in 2009/10. He then moved to the Krefeld Pinguinen in the German Ice Hockey League for the 2010/11 season , where he signed a one-year contract before receiving a contract for the 2011/12 season with the DEG Metro Stars a year later .
Kelly spent the 2012/13 season in Sweden and scored 21 goals in 46 appearances for the second division club IF Troja-Ljungby . He then returned to the second German league: 54 games and 32 goals (90 points) was his record for the 2013/14 season, which he spent with the Ravensburg Towerstars in the DEL2 . Kelly returned to the Bietigheim Steelers for the 2014/15 season. In the following season (2015/16) the Canadian remained loyal to the Steelers, was the best scorer in the league (34 goals, 51 assists) and was named player of the year in the second highest German division for the second time since 2009/10.
In February 2019, Kelly had to end his career at the age of 37 for health reasons. On October 21, 2018, he played for his last club Deggendorfer SC away in Kaufbeuren and suffered a severe concussion that finally forced him to end his career.
