The ice rink on Berliner Platz was an ice rink in Kaufbeuren , Bavaria . It was the venue for the home games of the ice hockey club ESV Kaufbeuren . The venue had 2,600 seats, including 740 seats. The hall was inaugurated on October 4, 1958 and was given a roof in 1969.

location

The stadium is located on Berliner Platz in Kaufbeuren on the edge of the Jordan Park near the city center. The train station is also very close and is around 300 meters from the stadium.

history

Previous venues

After the Second World War , the ESV Kaufbeuren played its home games on a pond in the Jordan Park, later also on the Kaiserweiher and in an uncovered facility at the site of the current stadium in the Jordan Park. After the club rose to the league in 1956, the top division at the time, a new stadium was built. It was located near the Jordananlage and offered around 5,000 to 6,000 spectators. In 1969 a new stadium was opened again on Berliner Platz, the current location.

Closure of the stadium

Blocking order from the city of Kaufbeuren in front of the ticket counters on December 14, 2012

On December 14, 2012, the city of Kaufbeuren, together with the ESVK, announced the complete closure of the stadium due to structural problems. The game against SC Riessersee planned for the same day was canceled. Later home games of the club were played in ice rinks in the area, including in the ice rink in the sports center Landsberg am Lech, and in Füssen.

The stadium was then poorly renovated, which reduced the capacity from 4,600 seats to 2,600. With a special permit, the stadium could continue to be operated until 2017.

New building

On July 29, 2014, the Kaufbeurer city council decided to build a new stadium next to the football stadium. Since this investment was controversial with about 22.5 million euros in the Kaufbeurer population, the final decision was not made until a referendum on January 18, 2015.

The new building has a capacity of up to 3,500 spectators and was officially opened from October 6th to 8th, 2017.

Reuse

Before the stadium is to be demolished in 2020, the stadium had been used as a temporary fire station for the Kaufbeuren volunteer fire department since November 2017 . The existing fire station should be replaced by a larger new building by the end of 2019. This planned move of the fire brigade took place in November 2019.

Sponsorship

In January 2008 the Kreis- und Stadtsparkasse Kaufbeuren acquired the naming rights to the ice rink, which from then on was officially called the Sparkassen Arena .
