Markus Keller (born August 19, 1989 in Augsburg ) is a German ice hockey goalkeeper who has been playing for the Augsburg Panthers in the DEL again since 2018 .
Career
Markus Keller began his career at the age of 10 with the Augsburger Panthers , for which, with the exception of 3 years in between at ESV Königsbrunn, he went through the junior departments and played with the "Young Panthers " until 2006. He then switched to the DNL team at Krefeld EV . Due to his achievements he recommended himself for assignments with the U-national teams and was regularly invited to competitions of the U18-, U19- and later also the U20-national team. For the 2007/08 season , the left catcher went to the upper league for EC Peiting via a sponsorship license for the Augsburg Panthers , where he completed a total of 17 competitive games for both the men's team and the junior Bundesliga team. A year later, Keller was signed by the league competitor Eisbären Juniors Berlin and formed the goalkeeper team with Sebastian Albrecht.
After the dissolution of the league team and the departure of Youri Ziffzer , the Augsburg resident got the role of the back-up behind Rob Zepp and thus came on September 4th, 2009 for his first appearance in a DEL game against the Kassel Huskies . In the same year he was given a production license for the polar bear's partner - the Dresden Ice Lions - and stood there as a representative for Kellen Briggs in the gate. At the end of January 2010, the Eisbären Berlin loaned him to the Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim until the end of the season, but kept his license for the Dresden Ice Lions. The next two years he played very successfully for the Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim , where he was voted best goalkeeper in the Oberliga West twice in a row.
In April 2012, the SC Riessersee signed from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga for the 2012/13 season after Harti Wild had announced the end of his career. After this one season at SC Riessersee, Keller returned to his hometown club, the Augsburg Panthers . In his first full DEL season, he was used in 32 of 52 possible games. His first DEL shutout was on October 6, 2013 in a 4-0 win over the Hamburg Freezers.
At the beginning of April 2015, Keller switched to the DEL2 for the Kassel Huskies . With the Huskies he won the DEL2 championship in his first season and was also named playoff MVP (most valuable player in the playoffs).
In April 2018 he switched back to the DEL to the Augsburg Panthers as one of the best keepers of the DEL2 with a catch quota of over 91%.
International
Between 2006 and 2009, Keller took part in several international tournaments with the German U18, U19 and U20 national teams. Among other things, he played at the World Junior A Challenge 2006 in Yorkton and Humboldt (Canada), and at the World Junior A Challenge 2008 in Camrose (Canada). In the 2013/14 season, Keller was in the extended squad of the senior national team for the first time.
