The striker, who was born in Darmstadt, began his career at HC Thurgau , where he played in various youth teams until he moved to Kloten for the 2006/2007 season to gain first experience in the highest Swiss junior league, Elite A. The left-shooter scored 8 goals and 15 assists in 34 games in his first Elite A season. In Kloten, the striker also matured to become a junior national player, where he made a total of 24 international matches for the Swiss U17, U18 and U20. During his last Elite A season, which he completed in the 2008/2009 season in Kloten, he also played his first three professional games in the second highest Swiss league, the National League B, for the Swiss U20 national team, which is out of competition in this League competed once against each team in the league. Schmidt also scored the first professional goal of his career.

After 3 years in Kloten he returned to HC Thurgau and signed his first professional contract for the 2009/2010 season. In his first full professional season he played a total of 22 games for HC Thurgau and scored 2 goals. There are also 23 appearances including play-offs for the Swiss third division club SC Weinfelden , where he was able to post 10 goals and 8 assists on his scoring account.

The following season Schmidt started again at his hometown club HC Thurgau, and then switched to the Bietigheim Steelers in the DEL2 in January . For the following season Schmidt stayed in Germany and signed a contract with the DEL2 champions, the Ravensburg Towerstars . Schmidt spent the following 3 years in Upper Swabia and continued to develop. In his first season there were 14 scorer points, but in his last year with the Oberschwaben in the 2013/2014 season the left-handed shooter achieved his strongest value with 34 scorer points. The storm row around Marko Friedrich , Stephan Vogt and Konstantin Schmidt became the third row with the highest points in the entire league.

The strong performances of the German-Swiss did not go unnoticed by the DEL clubs and Schmidt signed a contract with DEL-climber Schwenningen . Schmidt didn't make the jump, found himself in the stands more often and therefore switched back to Ravensburg in the DEL2 during the international break in November. In Ravensburg he also got a formative role and became one of the two wingers in the first block of the Towerstars alongside the two Americans Austin Smith and Brian Roloff .

In the 2015/2016 season, Schmidt became the best German scorer in the DEL2 with 71 scorer points including play-offs. For the 2016/2017 season he moved back to Switzerland and joined the NLB master, HC Ajoie .
