history

SC Weinfelden was founded in 1942 as EHC Weinfelden . In 1981 SC Weinfelden moved into the completed Weinfelden ice rink , previously the club played on an open ice rink in the Thurvorland. In 1989 the EHC Weinfelden handed over its license to the newly founded HC Thurgau in order to strengthen the cantonal ice hockey . The subsequently founded SC Weinfelden started as a new club in the deepest league. In 2003 he was promoted to the first division , the highest of all amateur leagues in Swiss ice hockey .

Sporty situation

The SC Weinfelden has been playing against relegation since its promotion to the first division with a low budget and young players. However, with one exception in 2009/10, the qualification for the playoffs of the best eight teams has always been possible since the promotion. In the 2007/08 season, the qualification for the semi-finals was achieved thanks to the great financial support of various local donors. Here the team willing to climb failed at EHC Winterthur in the fifth game. The sponsor group then took over HC Thurgau . Since then, the club has understood its role as a training club for young players from the region.

In the 2010/11 season, SC Weinfelden lost the last game of the season away against EHC Wetzikon 10-0 and were relegated to the 2nd division. After a strong first half of the qualification, the team was no longer able to confirm the performance in the second half of the season as well as the master's and relegation round. The club set itself the medium-term goal of promotion. After the end of the qualification in the 2012/2013 season, SC Weinfelden was already the group winner before the end of the qualifying round. On March 19, 2013, the team was promoted to the first division, with a 5-1 win in the third final game against HC Prättigau-Herrschaft.
