Hugo Boisvert (born February 11, 1976 in Saint-Eustache , Québec ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player who was active in Germany with EV Duisburg , the Kassel Huskies and the Dresdner Eislöwen . Most recently, he was head coach of the Bietigheim Steelers between May 2018 and November 2019 .

Player career

Boisvert played during his studies for the team at Ohio State University in the game operations of the NCAA , until he finally appeared in 2000 for the Canadian national team and played 39 games. For the 2000/01 season, the center moved to the Orlando Solar Bears in the International Hockey League , after the dissolution of which he moved to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League in the following season .

For the 2004/05 season , the Canadian signed a contract with the German second division team Duisburger Füchse , with whom he rose to the German Ice Hockey League in his first season . With the descent of the Kassel Huskies in the 2005/06 season in the 2. Bundesliga , the attacker moved together with Shawn McNeil to the North Hesse, with whom he dominated the second division, but the play-off final in the first second division season lost. In the second year in the second division Boisvert was appointed team captain and reached the second division championship title in the same season, through which the Huskies again qualified for the German ice hockey league for the 2008/09 season .

The Canadian's contract with the "Huskies" was valid until the end of the 2010/11 season , but lost its validity in summer 2010 when the club was dissolved. As a result, Boisvert was unemployed and kept fit with the EJ Kassel before he received a trial contract for a month with the Dresdner Eislöwen from the 2nd Bundesliga in November of the same year . This was extended during the season and Boisvert developed into one of the leading players in the ice lions. In September 2012 he received German citizenship. With the Eislöwen he acted as team captain for several years .

After the 2014/15 season he left the Eislöwen after he could not agree on a new contract with the Eislöwen.

Coaching career

Boisvert was hired by the DEL2 club Kassel Huskies as assistant coach in June 2015 , with whom he won the championship title in his first season under head coach Rico Rossi . In May 2018 he was hired by the Bietigheim Steelers as head coach. In November 2019 he was sacked by the Steelers' management, the team at that time was in seventh place in the table.
