history

The team played in the Canadian Professional Hockey League from 1927 to 1929 and in the International Hockey League from 1929 to 1936 . In 1928, the team finished second in the Canadian Professional Hockey League, a year later they completed the regular season in first place, but the play-offs won the Windsor Bulldogs . After that, the franchise joined the newly founded International Hockey League. The following season Detroit won the regular season, but failed in the play-offs. In the 1934/35 season, the Detroit team was able to complete both the regular season and the play-offs as winners and won the Calder Cup for the first time . In the following season, the team succeeded in winning the Calder Cups again before the Olympics were relocated to Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , and renamed Pittsburgh Hornets at the end of the season .
