Troy G. Ward (born June 4, 1962 in North St. Paul , Minnesota ) is a retired American ice hockey player and current coach and official. From 2017 to 2019 he was the head coach of the EHC Linz .

Career

After Troy Ward was still a player on the ice at college in the early 1980s, he started a job as an assistant coach just a year after graduating from college.

At the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire he earned his first coaching spurs, finally moved to the University of Denver for the 1990 season and from there to the junior division ( United States Hockey League ), which is highly regarded in North America . In the mid-1990s, the call came from the professional sector for the first time. In the International Hockey League , Ward trained for two years with the Indianapolis Ice and built up such a good reputation there that the American continued in the National Hockey League in 1997 . With the Pittsburgh Penguins Ward was active as an assistant coach and got there with young players like Jaromír Jágr , Alexei Kowaljow , Martin Straka and Robert Lang , some of whom became famous ice hockey players.

After more than 30 years as an experienced coach in various leagues, he moved to Europe for the first time in 2017 to the Austrian ice hockey club EHC Linz , where he worked as a coach until his dismissal in 2019. In the 2019/20 season he worked as a scout for the Vancouver Canucks for the first time .
