Ross Lupaschuk (born January 19, 1981 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league until February 2013 .
Career
Ross Lupaschuk began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , in which he was active from 1996 to 2001 for the Lethbridge Hurricanes , Prince Albert Raiders and Red Deer Rebels . With the Red Deer Rebels, he first won the WHL championship, the Ed Chynoweth Cup , and then the Memorial Cup , the championship of the Canadian Hockey League, in his final junior year . The defender played a major role in both successes, which is why he was selected for the CHL Second All-Star Team and the Memorial Cup All-Star Team. In his time as a junior player, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1999 in the second round as the 34th player of the Washington Capitals , for which he never played. Instead, he was under contract from 2001 to 2005 with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins from the American Hockey League , and in the 2002/03 season he also came to three missions for their cooperation partner Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League .
For the 2005/06 season Lupaschuk went to Europe, where he received a contract with Mora IK from the Swedish Elitserien . The following season he started with their league rivals Malmö Redhawks , but left them shortly after the start of the season to join Kärpät Oulu from the Finnish SM-liiga . With this he won the Finnish championship in the same year . After this success he left Kärpät and signed with HK Awangard Omsk from the Russian Super League . The 2008/09 season he also began in Russia, but at HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the newly formed Continental Hockey League . There the Canadian could not fight for a regular place, so he ended the season at his Swedish ex-club Mora IK, which had meanwhile been relegated to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan .
After Lupaschuk had spent the 2009/10 season at Helsingfors IFK in the SM-liiga, he was signed for the following season by the Kölner Haien from the German Ice Hockey League . On October 26, 2010, the Kölner Haie announced the release of Lupaschuk. For the 2011/12 season, the defender was signed by the Vienna Capitals from the Austrian Ice Hockey League , but his contract was terminated prematurely in January 2012.
