Martin Erat (born August 29, 1981 in Třebíč , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has played for HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga on the position of the left winger since September 2016 . Previously, Erat spent 16 years in North America, where he played 931 games for the Nashville Predators , Washington Capitals and Phoenix and Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League . His older brother Roman is also a hockey player.
Career
Martin Erat began his career in the youth division of HC Zlín , for which he made his debut in the top Czech division, the Extraliga , during the 1998/99 season . The following summer he was selected by the Nashville Predators in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in 191st place. He then moved to North America and played for two years in the Western Hockey League for the Saskatoon Blades and Red Deer Rebels . With the Rebels he won the President's Cup and the Memorial Cup in 2001 .
In the 2001/02 season he made his debut for the Predators in the NHL and set franchise rook records for completed games (80), assists (24) and points (33). After problems the following season, Erat played predominantly for the AHL farm team of the Nashville Predators, the Milwaukee Admirals . In the 2003/04 season he returned to the Nashville Predators and scored 16 goals and 33 assists, 49 points, making him fourth on the team.
Due to the lockout , he played in the 2004/05 season for HC Hamé Zlín in his homeland in the Czech Republic, where he brought it to 20 goals, 23 assists and 43 points, making him the third best scorer in the team. From the 2005/06 NHL season , Martin Erat was an integral part of the Nashville Predators. At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin he won the bronze medal with the Czech national team and the silver medal at the 2006 World Cup .
On April 3, 2013, he and Michael Latta were transferred to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Filip Forsberg . There he completed only 66 missions before he was handed over to the Phoenix Coyotes in March 2014 . After the 2014/15 season, his contract in Arizona was not extended, so he returned to Europe and joined the HK Awangard Omsk from the Continental Hockey League in September 2015 .
In May 2016 he returned to the Czech Extraliga and signed a contract with HC Kometa Brno . In April 2017, he won the club's twelfth championship title with Kometa after 51 years without a title.
