Filip Forsberg ( IPA : [ ˈfiːlɪp fɔʂbærj ]; born August 13, 1994 in Östervåla ) is a Swedish ice hockey player on the position of right winger , who has played for the Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League since April 2013 . With the Swedish national team , he won the gold medal at the 2018 World Cup .
Career
Forsberg has been with Leksands IF since his youth . There he has been active in the first men's team since the 2010/11 season . This plays in the HockeyAllsvenskan . In the KHL Junior Draft 2011 he was selected in the second round by HK Sibir Novosibirsk in 41st place; a year later in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft at eleventh overall place from the Washington Capitals . On July 13, 2012, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Capitals.
On April 3, 2013, the Capitals exchanged the NHL rights to Forsberg against forwards Martin Erat and Michael Latta of the Nashville Predators . After Forsberg had finished the season at Leksands IF, the Predators took him straight into the roster, so he made his debut in the NHL on April 14, 2013. The following season 2013/14 he spent for the most part with the farm team in the American Hockey League , the Milwaukee Admirals .
For the 2014/15 season he was reassigned to the Predators squad under the new head coach Peter Laviolette and reached the record for the most points of a rookie in his rookie season . With 38 points (14 goals and 24 assists) after 39 games, he surpassed the previous record of Alexander Radulow , who was able to achieve 37 points (18 goals and 19 assists) in the 2006/07 season . As a result, he was named NHL Rookie of the Month for November and also took part in the NHL All-Star Game . In total, the attacker scored 63 points (26 goals and 37 assists) in the 2014/15 season, leading the Predators in points and goals. As a result, he was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team . In the playoffs for the Stanley Cup he succeeded in the fifth game against the Chicago Blackhawks as the first player of the Predators a hat trick in the playoffs.
In the 2015/16 season he was again the top scorer (33 goals) and points collector (64 points) of his team. He set with his goals the franchise record for most goals in a season, which Jason Arnott had set in the 2008/09 season with 33 goals also scored. In 2017 he reached the Stanley Cup final with the Predators, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins there .
International
Forsberg played for Sweden at the 2011 U18 World Junior Championship , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2011 , the 2012 U20 World Junior Championship and the 2012 U18 World Junior Championship . He won the silver medal at the U18 tournaments and the gold medal at the U20 tournament. He was also named best striker at the U18 World Cup in 2012.
In the senior sector, he made his debut at the 2015 World Championships , where the Swedish selection reached fifth place. Furthermore, he represented his home country at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 , where he achieved third place with the team. At the 2018 World Cup , he won the gold medal with the Tre Kronor .

Filip Forsberg has a younger brother, Fredrik (* 1996), who is also a professional ice hockey player. Neither of them are related to former NHL player and Triple Gold Club member Peter Forsberg .
