On April 3, 2013, the Capitals exchanged the NHL rights to Forsberg against forwards Martin Erat and Michael Latta of the Nashville Predators . After Forsberg had finished the season at Leksands IF, the Predators took him straight into the roster, so he made his debut in the NHL on April 14, 2013. The following season 2013/14 he spent for the most part with the farm team in the American Hockey League , the Milwaukee Admirals .

For the 2014/15 season he was reassigned to the Predators squad under the new head coach Peter Laviolette and reached the record for the most points of a rookie in his rookie season . With 38 points (14 goals and 24 assists) after 39 games, he surpassed the previous record of Alexander Radulow , who was able to achieve 37 points (18 goals and 19 assists) in the 2006/07 season . As a result, he was named NHL Rookie of the Month for November and also took part in the NHL All-Star Game . In the 2015/16 season he was again the top scorer (33 goals) and points collector (64 points) of his team. He set with his goals the franchise record for most goals in a season, which Jason Arnott had set in the 2008/09 season with 33 goals also scored. In 2017 he reached the Stanley Cup final with the Predators, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins there .
