Kyle Turris (born August 14, 1989 in New Westminster , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey striker who has been with the Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League since November 2017 . Before that, he spent almost six years with the Ottawa Senators and was active in the Phoenix Coyotes organization for three years .
Career
Kyle Turris played from 2005 in the second-rate Canadian junior league British Columbia Hockey League at Burnaby Express , after he had previously spent a season in each lower-class junior leagues at the North Shore Winter Club and the Grandview Steelers . In his first BCHL season he proved his talent and was the third best scorer of his team in the regular season. He and his team won the BCHL playoffs and qualified for the final series for the Doyle Cup , which they also won. Finally, they also won the tournament for the Royal Bank Cup and thus the Canadian junior championship of the second-rate junior leagues.
In the 2006/07 season he was the BCHL's second best scorer with 121 points and led the playoff scorer list, although his team was eliminated in the second round.
Due to his achievements, he was placed by the talent scouts of the National Hockey League at number one in the ranking of the most talented players for the NHL Entry Draft 2007 and was finally selected in the draft of the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round in third place. In August and September he took part in the 2007 Super Series .
From autumn 2007 Kyle Turris played for the Wisconsin Badgers , the ice hockey team of the University of Wisconsin – Madison , and was the team's best scorer that season with eleven goals and 24 assists. After the end of the season he signed an entry contract with the Phoenix Coyotes in early April 2008 and spent the last three league games of the season with the team.
On December 17, 2011, the Phoenix Coyotes transferred him to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for David Rundblad and a second-round suffrage .
After almost six years in Ottawa, the Senators gave him to the Nashville Predators in November 2017 as part of a larger swap deal that signed Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche for a total of four players and three draft picks . In return, the Predators contributed to this transfer Samuel Girard , Wladislaw Kamenew and a second-round vote for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . As part of this, Turris signed a new six-year contract in Nashville, which should bring him an average annual salary of six million US dollars from the start of the 2018/19 season .
