With the Pittsburgh Penguins he won the Stanley Cup in the 2016 and 2017 playoffs .
Career
Nick Bonino began his career while junior on the Farmington High School ice hockey team , for which he was active from 2003 to 2005. He played from 2005 to 2007 on the ice hockey team at Avon Old Farms High School , for which he played 51 games and scored 122 points. The attacker then ran for three years in the Boston University team and collected a total of 117 scorer points in 116 games.
Bonino was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the sixth round at a total of 173rd position by the San Jose Sharks , but did not complete a single game for the Sharks and was given in March 2009 in an exchange deal to the Anaheim Ducks . With him, the German goalkeeper Timo Pielmeier moved to Anaheim, while Travis Moen and Kent Huskins were sent to San Jose. During the 2009-10 season , on March 21, 2010, he was signed by the Ducks franchise and signed a two-year entry - level contract . He played his first NHL game on March 26, 2010 against the Edmonton Oilers . His first goal for the Ducks came in his second NHL game when he scored the opening goal for the Southern Californians on March 29, 2010 in the home game against the Dallas Stars .
After spending the training camp in September 2010 at the Anaheim Ducks, Bonino was sent to the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League at the first squad reduction . In mid-October 2012 he moved to Italy due to the lockout . There he ran for HC Neumarkt from the A2 series .
In June 2014 Bonino together with Luca Sbisa and the first and third round suffrage for the NHL Entry Draft 2014 was given by the Ducks to the Vancouver Canucks , who in return received Ryan Kesler and a third round suffrage for the 2015 draft. After his first season in Vancouver, he also made his international debut when he won the bronze medal with the United States national team at the 2015 World Cup .
In July 2015, the Canucks including Adam Clendening and a six- round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2016 gave him to the Pittsburgh Penguins . In return, Brandon Sutter moved and a success-based third-round vote for the same draft to Vancouver. In the 2015/16 season he won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins and repeated this success the following year. Despite the successes with the pens in the two seasons, the attacker did not stay in Pittsburgh after his contract expired and switched to the Nashville Predators as a free agent on July 1, 2017 . There the 29-year-old signed a four-year contract.
International
At the international level, Bonino represented his home country at the 2015 World Cup in the Czech Republic . There he won the bronze medal with Team USA , to which he contributed four scorer points in ten tournament appearances. Another bronze medal followed three years later at the 2018 World Cup .
