Shay Stephenson (born September 13, 1983 in Outlook , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last (2010) under contract with Vålerenga Ishockey from the GET league .

Career

Stephenson began his career in 2000 in the Canadian Junior League WHL with the Red Deer Rebels , where he improved after a difficult first season and was able to achieve a total of 19 scorer points in 59 games in his second year . As a consequence, several were NHL - scouts noticed him, so that the Center during the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 by the Edmonton Oilers selected. However, these could not bring Stephenson to sign the contract, so that he continued to go on the ice in the WHL. After another strong performance in the 2002/03 season, the attacker was drafted again in 2003 , this time by the Carolina Hurricanes , who selected him in the seventh round in 198th place.

In the following years Stephenson stayed with the Red Deer Rebels for a year before moving to Sweden to IF Sundsvall in 2004 . In the summer of 2005, the Canadian was hired as a free agent by the Los Angeles Kings , who initially used him on their farm teams in the American Hockey League and ECHL . In the 2006/07 season , Stephenson then completed two games in the NHL for the Los Angeles Kings for the first time, in which, however, he could not achieve any scorer points. For the 2007/08 season the striker again dared to move to Europe and opted for an engagement with the Milano Vipers from the Italian Serie A . On June 12, 2008, however, the club stopped playing with immediate effect, so that the Canadian was without a club.

A few months later, the Krefeld Pinguine announced Stephenson's commitment. In the 2008/09 season he went on ice in the German Ice Hockey League before he came to Vålerenga Ishockey in Norway via the Las Vegas Wranglers .
