Iain James Fraser (born August 10, 1969 in Scarborough , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the New York Islanders , Quebec Nordiques , Dallas Stars , Edmonton Oilers , Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League and the Schwenninger Wild Wings , Berlin Capitals and Frankfurt Lions in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Fraser played for four years from 1986 to 1990 in the Ontario Hockey League with the Oshawa Generals . After he was only used sporadically in the first two seasons, he developed into one of the team's top scorers with 90 points from 62 games. The following year he was able to increase his point yield by another 15 and led the team to win the J. Ross Robertson Cup , the championship of the OHL, and to win the Memorial Cup . He himself was awarded the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy for the best player in the Memorial Cup tournament.

At the beginning of the 1990/91 game year, the New York Islanders took him under contract, who had selected him in the twelfth round in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in 233rd position. The center spent the first three years as a professional exclusively with the Capital District Islanders in the American Hockey League , before being used for the first time in seven NHL games in the 1992/93 season . In the following five seasons until 1998 Fraser played for the Quebec Nordiques , Dallas Stars , Edmonton Oilers , Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks , but came to a total of only 94 NHL games in which he scored 46 points. He played most games for Quebec in the 1993/94 season with 60.

In the summer of 1998, the Canadian left the North American continent and moved to the German Ice Hockey League for the Schwenninger Wild Wings , where he played for two years. Further DEL stations were the Berlin Capitals and Frankfurt Lions in the 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons . There were other changes, first back to North America in the West Coast Hockey League to the Fresno Falcons , then back to Europe. There he played in Great Britain and Italy. After eight games in the 2006/07 season, he ended his active career.

International

Fraser represented the Canadian national team at the 1995 Ice Hockey World Championship . With nine points in eight games, he played a key role in winning the bronze medal.
