Mark William O'Connell (born June 25, 1964 in Scarborough , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Boston .

Life

Mark O'Connell attended Dover-Sherborn Regional High School in Dover , Massachusetts . From 1982 to 1986 he studied philosophy at Boston College and from 1986 to 1990 Catholic Theology at the Seminary in Brighton . O'Connell received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Boston on June 16, 1990 through Cardinal Bernard Francis Law .

From 1990 to 1995 Mark O'Connell was parish vicar of the Saint Barbara Parish in Woburn and from 1995 to 1997 in the Saint Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers . He then became a chaplain at Salem State College in Salem . In 1997 O'Connell was sent to Rome for further studies at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross , where he obtained a licentiate in canon law in 1999 and received his doctorate in 2002 . From 2001 to 2007, Mark O'Connell was Assistant to the Archbishop's Curia Moderator for Canon Law and Vice-Official. In 2007 he became Official and Vice-Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Boston. Since 2006, Mark O'Connell has also taught canon law at the Saint John Seminary .

On 3 June 2016 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Gigthi and auxiliary bishop in Boston. The episcopal ordination donated it and the appointed with him Robert Reed of the Archbishop of Boston, Seán Patrick Cardinal O'Malley , OFM Cap , on 24 August 2016 the same year. Co-consecrators were the Boston auxiliary bishops Walter Edyvean and Peter Uglietto .
