Johannedal is a district of Sundsvall in the Swedish province of Västernorrlands län , in the historical province (landskap) Medelpad .

location

Johannedal belongs to the municipality of Sundsvall and within this since January 1, 2016 to the district of Skön, named after the church of Skön (Sköns kyrka) north-west of Johannedal . The place is on the western bank of the about 1 km wide strait Alnösundet of the Bottensee , opposite the island of Alnön with the place Vi . Johannedal is about 7 km north of the center of Sundsvall and almost 40 km as the crow flies southwest of the provincial capital Härnösand .

Europastraße 4 runs a few kilometers west of Johannedal . To the south of the village runs from the European road in the north of Sundsvall branching off the local road Y 615 over the 1 km long Alnöbron (Alnö bridge) built between 1961 and 1964 to the island of Alnön. There is a city bus connection to Sundsvall, where the nearest train station is located.

history

Johannedal was founded at the end of the 19th century after a sawmill had been opened there in 1884 by the entrepreneur Jonas Johansson, after whom the factory settlement was subsequently named. The wood processing industry continued to determine the development of the town. Johannedal received its current form in the 1960s to 1970s with the construction of the Ljustadalen housing estate (previously Ljusta ) west of the original town center.

Administratively, Johannedal initially belonged to the rural municipality of Sköns landskommun, which had emerged in 1862 from the Sköns socken parish . After various redesigns, the northern suburbs of Sundsvall, including Johannedal, were combined in 1948 to form an independent minority town (köping) called Skön (Sköns köping) . In 1965 this was partly absorbed in the city of Sundsvall, and in 1971 finally in the newly formed community.

Before 2015, Johannedal was considered to be an independent crime scene with a last 2754 inhabitants and thus at that time (2010) the fourth largest town in the municipality.

Attractions

About two kilometers northwest of Johannedal, in the direction of Sundsbruk and the large industrial park and shopping center Birsta, is the church of Skön, built in 1850, with various outbuildings. Predecessor buildings have probably been there since the 12th century. At the church there are fragments of two rune stones .
