history

The place was created in the 1850s in connection with the construction of the Sunds bruk ironworks . Other businesses subsequently emerged in the vicinity, including a sawmill and a machine factory. In 1937 the entire complex, except for the machine factory, was bought by Svenska Cellulosa AB , which set up a paper mill there and stopped all other activities until 1949. Today the plant belongs to the Metso Group and, under the name Metso Paper Sundsvall, continues to be the town's most important employer.

Administratively, Sundsbruk initially belonged to the rural municipality Sköns landskommun, which had emerged in 1862 from the Sköns socken parish . After various redesigns, the northern suburbs of Sundsvall, including Sundsbruk, were combined in 1948 to form an independent minority town (köping) called Skön (Sköns köping) . In 1965 this was partly absorbed in the city of Sundsvall, and in 1971 as a whole in the newly formed municipality.

Before 2015, Sundsbruk was considered an independent crime scene , which, in addition to the actual Sundsbruk, also included the districts of Finsta, Gångviken and Västland that had grown together with it over time. Before it was connected to Sundsvall, Sundsbruk had a population of 2137 (2010).

Sports

The men's soccer team of the local club Sund IF , founded in 1921, played temporarily in Division 3 , the fifth highest division, and the women's team in Division 2. At Sund IF, Linus Hallenius played among others in his youth .
