Mount Ballard is a 1600 m high mountain in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises in the western part of the Sweeney Mountains .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it using its own surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy between 1961 and 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain after Gordon E. Ballard of the United States Antarctic Program , who was responsible for the equipment on the Amundsen- Scott South Pole Station in the Antarctic winter of 1963.
