The Sweeney Mountains are a group of mountains in the east of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . They extend over a length of 65 km and are 48 km north of the Hauberg Mountains . From west to east, they include the Morgan Nunatakker , Mount Smart , Mount Ballard , Mount Edward , Mount Jenkins , Potter Peak , the Anderson Nunatakker and Hagerty Peak .

They were discovered during the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). Expedition leader Finn Ronne named her after Catherine Sweeney (1914-1995), wife of Edward C. Sweeney (1906-1967), a sponsor of the expedition.
