So Solid Crew is an English UK garage group. Their music is a mix of rap , contemporary R&B , and UK garage . The formation consists of 30 artists including Lisa Maffia, Asher D. , Romeo , Oxide and Neutrino .

history

The project emerged from a series of parties that MCs Megaman and Romeo hosted at the end of the 1990s. The two promoted the club appearances of garage and grime musicians. This also included the so-solid parties, which enjoyed increasing popularity. The crew formed around a few musicians who worked for the pirate station Supreme FM and was a loose collective of different musicians with similar origins and interests. At the end of 2000 they released their first album Oh No (Sentimental Things) on Relentless Records . Although it didn't make the charts, it became a classic and received a Silver Record for sales in 2013 .

The following year, the label Independiente released the single 21 Seconds , in which 30 musicians were involved. The number of seconds relates to the share of the individual musicians in the song. The single rose to number 1 on the UK charts and sold over 400,000 copies. The second album They Don't Know reached number 6 on the album charts and brought two more top 10 singles with the title track and Haters . At the MOBO Awards , the crew was named Best Newcomer and Best UK Garage Act . The video for 21 Seconds received a Brit Award .

In the vicinity of the crew and their appearances there were repeated violent clashes, which also resulted in deaths. Although they were not involved themselves, the band members from south London, with their street background and the violent lyrics, were made partly responsible for the atmosphere in which the whole thing could happen. Many members remained loyal to this scene even after the success.

With the next album 2nd Verse they tried to build on the success. With the pre -single Broken Silence they had their fourth top 10 hit, but neither the album nor other single releases made a bigger impression. Meanwhile, members like Oxide & Neutrino , Lisa Maffia and Asher D had their own successes. Others, like Megaman, G-Man, and MC Harvey, came into conflict with the law. There were signs of disintegration and the collective became calmer. However, there were more releases and in 2010 the So Solid Crew was again in the single charts with Since You Went Away . A best-of album was released in 2013.
