Yasmin K.
Yasmin K. , actually Yasmin Knoch ; also known as Yass (born September 27, 1986 in Soufriere on St. Lucia ) is a German pop singer. She became known through her participation in the second season of the talent show Popstars , which was broadcast in autumn 2001 by the German TV station RTL II .
Life
Yasmin Knoch is the daughter of the singer Oliver Bendt , famous from the 1980s and 1990s , founder and owner of the pop combo Goombay Dance Band . Her mother Alicia was also born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. Knoch grew up in Hamburg . After graduating from high school, she began to take singing lessons as well as piano and guitar lessons. First appearances with his own band followed. In 2000/01 she played a leading role in the musical Buddy performed in Hamburg .
She became known to a wider audience in autumn 2001 through her participation in pop stars . After several qualifying rounds, she first penetrated the final broadcasts, but then could not recommend herself for the band Bro'Sis formed in the broadcast . After she left, she signed the music producer Alex Christensen , who had worked on pop stars as a jury member , and produced the single Rhythm of the Night , a cover version of the Corona song , with her in the summer of 2002 . This and the following two hit singles were released under Alex C. feat. Yasmin K.
After a four year break succeeded Knoch (which now Y-ass called) together with Christensen and the single Sweetest ass in the world , a cover version of the hit Run A Way of the band The Sound Lovers of 1996, the biggest success of their Career. The song reached number one in the German single charts for a week in November 2007 . This was followed by other, not quite as successful singles with similarly clearly sexual topics.
In the following time under the name Whykay feat. Yasmin K. the songs Love is a stranger and Hate me curse me have been published.
In the 2012 movie Fraktus , Yasmin K. made a guest appearance as a singer. In the film, she sings the song Affe sucht Liebe , which was also released.
In March 2017, Heinz Strunk released the album Die Gläserne Milf , on which she participated with vocals. Strunk had recorded an EP called Retro with her as Polka Team in 2014 . It contained the song Smartest Girl Alive , which can be heard as a remix in the film Toni Erdmann . In autumn 2017, Yass contributed her voice to the song Infinty on the album Alex Christensen & The Berlin Orchestra.
In 2018 Knoch worked again with Alex Christensen for his album Alex Christensen & The Berlin Orchestra 2. There she sang the song Feels like in Heaven , a modified cover of the song Time after Time by Cindy Lauper.
