Gigi D'Alessio (* 24. February 1967 in Naples as Luigi D'Alessio ) is an Italian singer-songwriter and singer.

biography

D'Alessio made his first experiences with music with the accordion that his father gave him when he was four years old. At the age of twelve he enrolled at the conservatory . After writing some lyrics for several Neapolitan singers, he himself appeared as the pianist of Mario Merola , with whom he wrote and interpreted the song Cient'anne - the theme song of the film of the same name. In 1992 he brought out his debut album Lasciatemi cantare . With songs like Fotomodelle un po 'povere , Annaré , Anna se sposa , he achieved his first Italian-wide success in the next few years.

In 2000 the musician first took part in the Sanremo Festival . With the song Non dirgli mai , however, he only finished tenth in the end. The subsequently published album Quando la mia vita cambierà reached the top five of the charts for the first time. A tour also followed, which also took D'Alessio abroad. The next year he took part again in the Sanremo Festival, although his song Tu che ne sai did not get past eighth place. The following album Il cammino dell'età was able to reach the top of the chart.

He was able to repeat the number one success in 2002 with the next album Uno come te . He produced the album with the help of international musicians such as Pino Palladino and Vinnie Colaiuta . The single Un nuovo bacio , a duet with the then fifteen-year-old Anna Tatangelo , who had just won the newcomer category at the Sanremo Festival, brought D'Alessio into the top ten of the single charts for the first time. In 2003 he released his first best-of album Buona vita . After the next album Quanti amori , he took part again in 2005 at the Sanremo Festival, where he took second place in the men's category with L'amore che non c'è ; the song found its way into a special edition of the album. The live album Buonincoro followed at the end of the year .

In 2006 it became known that D'Alessio was in a relationship with Anna Tatangelo, who was twenty years his junior, after which he announced the separation from his wife Carmela - with whom he had three children - (the divorce did not take place until 2014). In addition, his album Made in Italy was released , which reached number one again in the charts. The single Primo appuntamento was his first number one hit, and the single Un cuore malato was also a success in the French-speaking world thanks to his collaboration with Lara Fabian . After the compilation Mi faccio in quattro (2007), D'Alessio released the next album Questo sono io in 2008 . After the EP 6 come ist the following year, the singer appeared in his own music show called Gigi, questo sono io on RAIUno in 2010 . In the same year he brought out the second EP Semplicemente sei , which again promoted him to the top of the chart. It also contained a song on the occasion of the birth of Anna Tatangelo's first son, Andrea.

For the fourth time, D'Alessio took part in the Sanremo Festival in 2012 : In a duet with Loredana Bertè , he presented the song Respirare , which reached fourth place in the final. His album Chiaro was then released . This was followed by Ora (2013) and Malaterra (2015). The 2017 Sanremo Festival was the musician's fifth participation in the competition.
