Francesca Archibugi (born May 16, 1960 in Rome ) is an Italian film director , screenwriter and actress .

Life

Archibugi's early modeling career gave her a role in Gianni Amico's 1979 television film based on Goethe's The Elective Affinities . She decided to direct herself and therefore attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia from the following year . Even before graduating in 1983, she made short films, of which she made six by 1986. She attended directing courses from Ermanno Olmi and screenwriting courses with Furio Scarpelli . She took on roles in two films; In 1987 and 1988 two scripts were filmed.

She made her debut in 1988 with Mignon è Partita in the feature film sector . The film won five David di Donatellos , among others . Further successful films followed at regular intervals to this day, which are also regularly awarded. The critics emphasize her realistic, almost documentary style and her great sensitivity, despite the sparing cinematic stylistic devices.

Archibugi is married to the film composer Battista Lena .
