Roy Paci
Roy Paci (born September 16, 1969 in Augusta , Sicily ) (actually Rosario Paci ) is an Italian trumpeter , singer , composer and arranger .
Life and musical work
Roy Paci learned to play the piano as a child and began playing the trumpet at the age of 10. At the age of 13 he played traditional jazz and performed in Italian jazz clubs .
In 1990 Paci went to South America . He toured Uruguay , Argentina and Brazil and played cumbia and other popular music. On trips to the Canary Islands and Senegal , he was further influenced musically. During these trips Paci toured with a wide variety of musicians and participated in a number of projects, film and television productions and political campaigns - such as Amnesty International's campaign against violence against women .
Back in Italy, Paci played with various bands from the alternative rock scene such as Persian Jones , Qbeta , Mau Mau , Banda Ionica and Zu . The list of these collaborations reflects the range of his musical influences and preferences from punk and ska to free jazz and Italian funeral marches .
In 1999 Roy Paci met the French musician Manu Chao . He can be heard for the first time with this album Próxima Estación: Esperanza, which has been much praised on Chaos . Paci continued to record with Chao and toured extensively with his group Radio Bemba Sound System . 2001 began a long-lasting collaboration with the Amsterdam anarcho-punk band The Ex and their - up to 20 improvising musicians existing - Ex Orkestra . He continued his collaboration with The Ex in 2010 together with Wolter Wierbos , Mats Gustafsson and Ken Vandermark on the Brass Unbound project .
In 2002 Paci founded his own band Aretuska and in 2003 the record label Etnagigante , on which her second album Tuttaposto was released. The album contains a mixture of calypso , rock steady , swing rhythms and arrangements of traditional Sicilian folk music. Further collaborations with Tony Scott , Mike Patton , Gogol Bordello , Shantel and Zap Mama followed . Together with Frank London and Boban Marković , he released Trumpet Triumph, an album that combined klezmer music with Balkan Brass and Paci's Sicilian tradition.
In Germany in 2010 he was involved in Bela B's title Sie hat was mississ .
Roy Paci often presents himself in a mafia suit with a lot of pomade in his hair.
Theater, television and cinema
Paci worked on the plays Poetry e Andalusia and Scambi Pressoché Telepatici by Ivano Fossati , which was also published as an audio book. From 2005, Aretuska became known to a wide audience in Italy through various television shows. Paci composed music for Italian cinema and several of his pieces were used for film soundtracks. So used Leonardo Pieraccioni Pacis version of Bésame mucho in his film Suddenly Paradise .
