The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Dışişleri Bakanlığı ) is a ministry of the Government of Turkey . As the Foreign Ministry , it has been responsible for foreign policy in Turkey since May 2, 1920, then under the name Hariciye Vekaleti .
The seat is in the Dr. Sadık Ahmet Cad. 8 in Çankaya in the province of Ankara .
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu ( AKP ) has been the acting Foreign Minister since November 24, 2015 .
history
The current Ministry of Foreign Affairs already existed during the Ottoman Empire. At some point the empire was too big to be ruled from Istanbul alone. Officials were sent all over the country. With the appointment of the first ambassador for the Ottoman Empire in 1793, all tasks were bundled and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs was created. When the republic was founded in 1923, the ministry was integrated into the new state without any major changes.
Structure and tasks
At the head of the ministry is the minister, currently Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The minister has three vice ministers who provide support and are heads of areas at the same time. Sedat Önal is in charge of the department of bilateral relations with other countries, international law and analysis of international politics. Faruk Kaymakcı is for the former Ministry of European Affairs, which was dissolved in July 2018 and became a division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Diplomacy division. Yavuz Selim Kıran is responsible for communication, human resources, translation and strategy development.
The head office is in Ankara. The ministry is represented by 185 institutions (embassies and consulates) in 107 countries. The embassies are responsible for relations with the respective country. In addition, Turkish citizens can do consular matters such as issuing passports in the embassies.
