Nessun grado di separazione ( Italian for "No degree of separation") is a song by the Italian singer Francesca Michielin , with which she came second at the 2016 Sanremo Festival . It was written by Michielin together with Cheope , Federica Abbate and Fabio Gargiulo . Under the title No Degree of Separation , the singer presented the song in an Italian-English version at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 .

The song's title was first announced on December 13, 2015, when the 2016 Sanremo Festival participants were announced. Michielin appeared at the Sanremo Festival for the first time after her X-Factor victory in 2012. She presented the song on the second evening and made it into the final vote on February 13, 2016, where she finally came in second with 30.37%, ahead of Giovanni Caccamo and Deborah Iurato (26.89%) and behind Stadio (42nd place) , 74%) landed.
According to the rules, the Sanremo winner was given the right to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest . However, after Stadio declined, the RAI decided that Michielin would move up in second place. Lange was unclear whether the song would be maintained until mid-March, was finally determined that Michielin the ESC an abridged version of their Sanremo contribution with a chorus in English (Text Norma Jean Martine ) and the English title No Degree of Separation sing would. This was officially released on March 25th.

The song is thematically based on the sociological theory of six degrees of separation , which says that all people worldwide cannot be more than six relationship strands apart. In the text, which was written by Michielin together with Cheope and Abbate, the concept is brought to an emotional level in order to state in the refrain that, despite great cultural differences, ultimately there are no distances or differences between people. In the stanzas, the singer speaks about her desire to open up to life and invites you to leave the box of your own prejudices and fears.
Chart successes
In Italy, Nessun grado di separazione rose to the top of the FIMI charts immediately after the Sanremo success and pushed the Sanremo winner Stadio into third place. The song was certified platinum in week 15/2016 for more than 50,000 downloads and streams .
