Filippa Giordano (born February 14, 1974 in Palermo ) is an Italian singer from the field of classical crossover .

life and career

Giordano comes from a very musical family. Both parents are singers, her father sang in the Sistine Chapel , her mother at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Her grandfather, aunt, uncle and brother are also classical musicians. Despite this classic setting, Giordano was more enthusiastic about pop music .

Her career began with a tape that she sent to Caterina Caselli from the Sugar Music label . On this tape she had sung classic pieces, such as Casta Diva from Bellini's Norma, in pop versions. Caselli then made sure that Giordano took part in the Sanremo Festival in 1999 , where she took second place in the newcomer category. She began work on her first album in September 1998. The album was released in 1999 under the title Passioni and ensured that she became known worldwide. For the second, self-titled album, she worked a. a. together with Ennio Morricone . In 2000 Manfred Waffender shot the documentary Filippa Giordano about her - a singer on the way to world fame .

In 2002 Giordano returned with Amarti sì to the Sanremo Festival, where she reached seventh place. The album Il rosso amore was then released . In the following years she pursued her career in Japan and especially in Latin America and in 2010 she took the Mexican citizenship. She regularly released other albums.
