Lollipop is an Italian girl group that was formed in 2001. After the provisional dissolution in 2005, reunions first came about in 2013 and then in 2017 .

history

The girl group was put together as part of the first Italian edition of the talent show Popstars , which was broadcast on Italia 1 from 2000 . The five members were Marcella Ovani (* 1982 in Pesaro ), Veronica Rubino (* 1981 in Caserta ), Dominique Fidanza (* 1979 in Brussels ), Roberta Ruiu (* 1981 in Rome ) and Marta Falcone (* 1976 in Bollate ). Lollipop made his Warner debut in 2001 with the single Down Down Down , which became a number one hit in Italy. The follow-up singles Don't Leave Me Now and When the Rain were also successful. The entire debut album Popstars was in English.

After a mini-tour in the summer of 2001, the group returned to the big stage at the 2002 Sanremo Festival . There she presented the song Batte forte in the main category , for the first time in Italian, but only landed on the penultimate place. This was followed by a new edition of the first album, followed by another tour. Already in this year there were initial tensions between the members of the girl group and the single Credi a me (from the Italian soundtrack of the cartoon The Jungle Book 2 ), released in early 2003, did not bring the hoped-for success. After some delay, the second album Together was released in 2004 , and soon afterwards the failure and disagreements within the group led to the temporary end of Lollipop.

After the end of the group, Dominique Fidanza was able to start a solo career in French-speaking countries. The rest of the girl group got together again in 2013 for a series of concerts and released the single Ciao (Reload) . After another pause, Lollipop, now without Roberta Ruiu, came back one more time in 2017. In 2018 the single Ritmo tribale was released . In the summer of 2019, a dance mashup by Lollipops Sanremo post Batte forte with Gangnam Style went viral in China via the social network TikTok and spread from there as the Batte Forte Dance Challenge u. a. also to Japan and Southeast Asia.
