Italia 1 is a private Italian TV station from Berlusconi's Mediaset broadcasting group . After Canale 5 and Rete 4 withdrew cartoons from their programs a few years ago, Italia 1 is the only free TV channel from Mediaset that still broadcasts cartoons. The broadcaster specializes primarily in US series, anime , broadcasts and music programs. Anime are now broadcast on Italia 2 .

Italia 1 can also be received in Germany via the Hotbird satellite . Until September 7, 2015, Italia 1 was still broadcasting unencrypted. Since then, the station can only be received via satellite on pay TV. Italia 1 can also be received unencrypted via tivùsat , but a tivùsat card and an Italian tax number are required to activate the tivùsat card. In contrast to other pay-TV subscriptions, tivùsat only incurs one-time costs for the tivùsat card. The card is then valid indefinitely.

The media group Mediaset , founded by the former Italian head of government Silvio Berlusconi, explained the move with licensing problems. Due to the increased prices for TV and sports rights, the stations do not have the rights to broadcast Europe-wide, so the media group has ended the unencrypted broadcasting of the stations.
