Ex-Otago is an Italian indie pop band from Genoa .

history

The band was formed in 2002 as an acoustic trio from Alberto "Pernazza" Argentesi, Maurizio Carucci and Simone Bertuccini. After the first album The Chestnuts Time in their own production, the drummer Simone Fallani joined them in 2004 and the group came under contract with the independent label Riotmaker Records . In this formation she made her debut with the single Giorni vacanzieri and in 2007 with the album Tanti saluti . In 2008 Gabriele replaced Floris Fallani on drums, in 2009 the group began recording a new album, which was released in 2011 under the title Mezze stagioni . Meanwhile, the band also joined Francesco Bacci and Olmo Martellacci.

At the end of 2012, ex-Otago announced the separation from founding member Argentesi and work on the next album. In 2014 In capo al mondo was finally released . After Floris left, Rachid Bouchabla joined the group as the new drummer in 2016, and in the same year she released the fifth album Marassi , which was distributed for the first time by a major label and reached the album charts. On the new edition of the 2017 album, StraMarassi , guest musicians such as Jake La Furia and Caparezza could be heard. At the end of 2018, the band's participation in the Sanremo Festival 2019 was announced, where they finished 13th in the final with Solo una canzone .
