Fred Bongusto

Fred Bongusto (born April 6, 1935 in Campobasso as Alfredo Antonio Carlo Buongusto ; † November 8, 2019 in Rome ) was an Italian singer and composer .

Life

Bongusto began his musical career in 1960 as part of the I 4 Loris , with whom he released his first singles; from 1963 he was on stage as a singer with Fred Bongusto & il suo complesso as the front man. He made his breakthrough with the song Amore fermati , the theme song for a TV program by Gorni Kramer . In 1964 he was able to score in the competition Un disco per l'estate with the song Una rotonda sul mare . From then on he celebrated successes in the style of crooners , which led to numerous recordings, over 30 film soundtracks (including films by directors such as Alberto Lattuada and Salvatore Samperi ) and 37 long-playing records. In 1967 he married Gabriella Palazzoli ; in the 1970s he began numerous tours, which he carried out with great success until 2007 (outside of Italy, especially in South America ). The singer took part in the Sanremo Festival in 1986 and 1989 .

In the 1990s he was elected as a local politician for the Partito Socialista Italiano in Bari. In May 2005 he received the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic .
