Ultra Low Delay Coder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ultra Low Delay Codec (ULD) is a lossy audio data compression method that produces a significantly lower signal delay than conventional methods such as MP3 or AAC . This makes the ULD Codec particularly suitable for communication applications (for example Internet telephony and making music over networks), where not only high compression but also low latency are important.

The ULD Codec was developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) in Ilmenau in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) in Erlangen . The research work will be continued at the Technical University of Ilmenau .
